Title: Magnetar Emission
Magnetars are neutron stars whose magnetic field is so strong (at least several times $10^14$G), that it is the primary energy source. Many different types of emission are seen, including bursting soft gamma rays, X-ray afterglow, persistent X-ray emission, pulsed optical, time varying infra-red. The possibility is raised that there can be optical flashes associated with gamma ray bursts that could be detectable with medium-size optical telescopes.
