Title: Dynamics of Gas & Dust in the SMC
The spatial power spectrum of 21 cm emission in the SMC was observed to be a power law over a very wide range of scales: 30 pc- 4 kpc (with the latter being comparable to the size of the SMC). This implies correlations of the density structure, over such wide scales. The density structure could be viewed as consisting of static clouds originating from the formation epoch, or alternatively as due to a dynamical turbulent velocity field in the ISM of the SMC. Recent observations of the spatial power spectrum of the dust mass column density in the SMC, can be used to make the case for the second possibility.
